Arolla, a tiny little ski resort in the middle of the Valais range in Switzerland. A wonderfull swiss village.

My friend Xavier asked me to guide a grope for 3 days around. i dont know the area and i love to discover new places…

Day 1:
from the top of the resort we skin up to the « cassorte pass » to ski another valley. Wonderful. it is very warm and the snow melts quickly. A perfect spring snow descent. Excellent

Day 2:
the weather forecast is bad for day 3 so we motivate the group for a big day. Breakfast at 6am to go to Dent de Bertol. After 2 hours to skiing up on the glacier, the south wind is so strong that we decide to change our plan: we’ll go to the col superior de la Tsa, next to the Bertol mountain hut the famous last hut of the haute route.

the wind is really tiring but the group is brave and we manage to go a bit higher then the pass, at the bottom of the Aiguille de la Tsa. 1500m of hiking….
The descent is nice, but the wind didn’t allowed the snow to melt, so no spring snow today….

we wake up with a 20cm snow fall for breakfast!!!! incredible. But the visibility is not very good so we head up to a 700m hike between the clouds. The ski down is nice even if the snow is very heavy and not easy to ski

Arolla is a very interesting little resort with a HUGE potential for mountain lovers!! Beside the highest peak, the Pigne d’Arolla 3900m, there are a lot of couloirs, comb, valleys to ski with a good ratio hiking/skiingdown

i will come back…
